MAPFRE enjoyed a prominent presence at ITC Vegas, the world’s largest insurtech innovation event, where the company’s experts addressed key topics such as the impact of generative AI, digitalization in claims management, and the importance of strategic alliances—such as the recently announced partnership with Blue Marble—to reduce the insurance protection gap in Latin America.

José Luis Bernal, chief digital, data and innovation officer at MAPFRE USA, highlighted the lessons that the rise of generative AI is bringing to the insurance sector. During his presentation, he analyzed how insurers are collaborating with startups and using data to turn innovation into a strategic tool focused on maximizing return on investment and measuring the success of implemented projects.

Anurag Bairathi, chief claims officer at MAPFRE USA, took part in a panel discussion on automation and digitalization in the claims area. In his talk, he discussed how technology enables better decision-making, faster payments, and improved customer experience. According to Bairathi, “adjusters spend two-thirds of their time on admin tasks, which limits their ability to provide better service. Leveraging technology means we can cut this burden dramatically and improve both customer service and the employee experience.”

Carlos Cendra, scouting and investment lead at MAPFRE, led one of the main presentations in the ITC Latam space—focused on the region during the event, where MAPFRE is the largest multinational insurer. He analyzed the role of social impact partnerships in reducing the insurance gap in the region and pointed out that insurance penetration in Latin America represents only 3% of GDP, compared to 12.5% in the UK and 11.8% in the US. Cendra emphasized that factors such as low economic growth, inequality, lack of financial education, and regulatory differences are challenges that limit the sector’s development in the region. However, he highlighted how collaboration and purpose-driven innovation can be used to drive growth and protect the most vulnerable groups.

MAPFRE, which for the second consecutive year was the only Spanish insurer present at ITC Vegas, also presented its innovation model, which has already impacted more than 4.4 million customers over the past seven years. The company reaffirmed its commitment to measuring return on investment and the scalability of projects, focusing on creating value for both the company and its customers.

MAPFRE has been positioning itself for years as a leader in the sector’s transformation, betting on transversal and open innovation models, and strengthening areas such as operations, technology, data and AI, and cybersecurity to continue caring for people.
